Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge14 sts = 4 (10 cm); 9 rows = 4 (10 cm) in double crochet (dc).

Finished SizeBack Scrubber measures 5 x 22 (14 x 56 cm), not including handles.

  • RED HEART Scrubby: 2 balls of 10 Coconut
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
  • Yarn needle

Special Stitch

Fpdc (Front post double crochet) = Yarn over, insert hook from front side of work to back and to front again around post of indicated stitch; yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops (1 loop remains on hook).

Back Scrubber

  1. Ch 22.

  2. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped ch count as first dc) and in each remaining ch across, turn—20 dc.

  3. Rows 2–48: Ch 3 (counts as dc), Fpdc around next 18 dc, dc in top of turning ch, turn.

  4. First Handle: Ch 35, skip first 19 sts of Row 48, slip st in last st, turn, sc in each ch across, slip st in beginning of Row 48. Fasten off.

  5. Second Handle: Join yarn with slip st in corner of short end of scratcher that does not yet have a handle, ch 35, slip st in other corner of short end of scratcher, turn, sc in each ch across, slip st near joining slip st. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
