Begin with a Ch 30.

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook. Hdc 27. Turn. (28 sts)

Rows 2-32. Work in BLO:

Row 33: Ch 2. Hdc in same st. Hdc 27. Turn (28 sts)
(You can work more or less rows to suit your needs) -
Turn your piece 90 degrees and sc down the long side. Try to make them as even as possible.

You should have a long, ribbed rectangle. Fold it in half, with the ribs running up and down. Sl st the two ends together, forming a short tube. Tie off.

With your side seam facing out, grab a length of yarn, and thread it through your needle. Then, go in and out through every other sc sts at the top of your tube, making long stitches. When you reach where you started, pull the string tight. This will cinch up the top of the hat, closing it. Tie a very tight and sturdy knot. Turn your hat right side out. The knot and seam will be on the inside.
Ears (Make 2)
(use a gradient piece of yarn that matches the top of your hat best. Same colors look a bit better than black on white, or white on black).

Attach the ears on the top of the hat with a length of yarn and a yarn needle. For best results, try the hat on, and position the ears in a pleasing manner with pins. Sew along the bottom of the ears, going up from the inside of the hat. To keep them from flapping, sew up 1 or 2 rows more on the ears. This tacks them on a bit more securely. They look cute poking up a little, but are a bit cumbersome if they are attached only at the bottom.

Weave in your ends. Attach a pom-pom if you like to, but it looks cute without it as well.
