Halloween Crochet Necklace for Kids

Crochet HookF/5 or 3.75 mm hook

MATERIALS:

  • Red Heart Super Saver:
    • A: 316 Soft White (1 skein)
    • B: 312 Black (1 skein)
    • C: 3620 Glowworm (1 skein)
    • D: 254 Pumpkin (1 skein)
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook (F/5, 3.75 mm)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Sewing Needle
  • One 1/2" (12.7 mm) Black Button
  • Two Orange Size 6 Seed Beads
  • Black Embroidery Floss
  • Stitch Illustration

SIZE:
Finished Size: 21” (53.3 cm) long

GAUGE:
2 scallops = 1½” (3.8 cm).

SPECIAL STITCHES:
sc2tog = [Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

NOTES:
Leave long end at beginning and end of each piece to be used to attach pieces to necklace.

NECKLACE
With A, ch 80.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 20 chs, hdc in next 6 chs, 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in next 10 chs, 2 hdc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 10 chs, 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in next 6 chs, sc in next 22 chs, ch 1, turn¬—83 sts.
Row 2: *Slip st in next st, skip 1 st, 3 sc in next st, repeat from * across, ch 3, slip st in base of row 1 for button hole. Fasten off.

Finishing
With A, sew button on opposite side of necklace.

Bat
Wings (make 2)
With B, ch 7.
Row 1: Slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc2tog in next 2 chs, [ch 2, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, slip st in next ch) twice, slip st in last ch. Fasten off.

Head
With B, ch 4.
Row 1: Slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in next 2 sc, ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Slip st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 sc. Fasten off.

Finishing
Using embroidery floss, attach orange beads to Head as shown in photo. Using long ends, sew Head between Wings. Using long ends, sew assembled Bat to center of Necklace.

Pumpkin (make 2) 
With D, ch 2.
Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn—3 sc.
Row 2: 2 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn— 6 sc.
Row 3: [Sc2tog in next 3 sts] 2 times, ch 1, turn—2 sc.
Row 4: Skip 1 sc, slip st in next st. Fasten off. 

Finishing
Using embroidery floss and French knots (see illustration), embroider eyes and nose as shown in photo. Using embroidery floss and straight stitches embroider mouth as shown in photo. Using long ends, sew Pumpkin in place on Necklace as shown in photo. Using glowworm and satin stitch (see illustration), embroider stem.

Witch
Face (make 2)
With C, ch 2.
Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn—3 sc.
Row 2: Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in last sc. Fasten off.

Hat (make 2)
With B, ch 7.
Row 1: Slip st in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, sc2tog in next 2 chs, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch, ch 2, slip st in 2nd ch from hook, evenly space 3 slip sts across bottom of Hat, ch 2, slip st in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off. 

Finishing
Using long ends, sew 1 Face under each Hat. Using embroidery floss and French knots (see illustration), embroider eyes as shown in photo. Using embroidery floss and straight stitches, embroider nose and mouth as shown in photo. Using long ends, sew Witch in place on Necklace as shown in photo.
