"I was happy to make this a beginner pattern. You will only need to know how to half double crochet, single crochet, and increase using single crochet. The only technique I would not call a beginner technique is how to crochet into the side of rows. I have a video below to teach you this technique or you can simply skip this part of the pattern. The shape edges may look a little rough but they will still clearly be a triangle and square."

Crochet HookE/4 or 3.5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet GaugeGauge is not super important in this pattern, but if you change your hook for each shape you will be able to sort the shapes by size.
6 HDC x 5 rows = 2 inches

Finished SizeMy shapes were roughly 2 inches tall and the mat measures 14.5″ by 9″.
