Welcome to AllFreeCrochet's NEWEST Crochet Along! We're always excited to host new things and we thought a crochet along for a gorgeous crochet ruana was going to get you pumped. We've joined forces with Red Heart Yarns and Marly Bird, as your teacher, to bring you this fun crochet along, and one lucky winner will win a great yarn bundle from Red Heart.

Featured Pattern: The Around Town Crochet Ruana Wrap is the chic "it" accessory for fall, and if you're wondering what it is, it's a lovely mix between a crochet shawl and a poncho since it features an opening up the front. This crochet ruana is quick and easy to work up and makes for a quick way to layer up and stay warm this fall. Bundle yourself up with this crochet wrap as you stroll around town. Worked up in two rectangular panels and then sewn together, this comfy piece is sure to be your go-to when leaving your house.

Crochet HookD/3 or 3.25 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge8 pattern repeats = 4” (10 cm) (one pattern repeat consists of one chain and one single crochet); 13 rows = 4” (10 cm).

  1. How to Participate
    It’s easy to take part in our Crochet Along! There will be four different steps, all linked below, that will be posted on AllFreeCrochet. All you need to do is simply visit the site on the dates below to get the next step of instructions.

    Notes:
    1. Ruana is made from 2 rectangular panels sewn together halfway up from bottom edge.
    2. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Do not cut color not in use; carry along wrong side until next needed.

    Special Stitches:
    reverse sc (reverse single crochet)
    = Work single crochet in opposite direction from which you would usually work (left to right if you are right-handed and right to left if you are left-handed). This stitch is also known as crab stitch. It creates a rope-like twisted single crochet edging.
    Join with sc = Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

    Ruana - Panels
    (Make 2)
    With A, ch 241.
    Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across to last ch, sc in last ch; change to B, turn—121 sc and 119 ch-1 spaces
    Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * across, sc in last sc; change to C, turn.
    Row 3: Repeat Row 2; change to A at end of row.
    Row 4: Repeat Row 2; change to B at end of row.
    Rows 5–73: Repeat last 3 rows 23 times. Do not change to B at end of Row 73. Fasten off.

    Finishing:
    Using a tapestry needle, weave in your ends. 

    Seaming:Place a stitch marker at center of top edge of each panel. With A, sew last rows together from first stitch to marked stitch to form back seam; leave remaining stitches unsewn.

    Edging Row: With right side of joined panels facing (back of piece) and working in ends of rows, join C with sc in last row, reverse sc in each row across. Fasten off.
    Repeat Edging Row in ends of rows of short front edge of each panel. Weave in ends.
