Flowered Handbag

"This is a fun and easy bag to make. Even though I only put 5 flowers on the bag, you can put as many flowers on it as you want. I call it a handbag, but it can be used as a diaper bag too."

Crochet HookI/9 or 5.5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Finished Size14" x 11"

Materials List

  • 1 skein each for bag and flowers
  • darning needle

Instructions

Ch 51
Row 1 sl st in each ch, turn (50)
Row 2 ch 1 sl st in each sl st catching both loops, turn
Rows 3-5 repeat row 2
Row 6 ch 2 HDC in in each sl st, turn
Row 7 ch 2 HDC in back loop of each HDC, turn
Rows 8 – 53 repeat row 7
Row 54 sl st in each HDC catching both loops, turn
Row 55 ch 1 sl st in each sl st, turn
Rows 56-58 repeat row 55
Fold in half lengthwise. Sl st sides together.
Turn right side out.

Straps
Make 2
Ch 71
SC in each ch
Stitch straps to inside top of side of the handbag

Flowers
For this bag I made 5, but make as many as you want
Ch 5, sl st to close loop.
Ch 2, 4 DC in same st as ch
5DC in remaining 4 ch, You will now have 5 petals.

Flower center
Ch 5, sl st to close loop. Leave a tail.
Sl in each ch, finish,
Attach center to flower petals.
Attach flowers to bag in any order you want.
