MATERIALS:

  • RED HEART® Fiesta®: 4 skeins of 6261 Autumn A
  • RED HEART® Super Saver®: 2 skeins each of 400 Grey Heather B, 313 Aran C, and 320 Cornmeal D
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
  • Yarn Needle

GAUGE: 13 sts and 8 rows in dc = 4” in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.

SIZE: Throw measure 55” (139.5 cm) in diameter, from side to side

ABBREVIATIONS:

Front Post treble crochet (FPtr): Yarn over (twice), insert hook from front to back to front again around the post of corresponding st 2 rounds below, yarn over and draw up a loop to height of current round, [yarn over, draw through 2 loops on hook] 3 times, skip st behind FPtr just made.

NOTE: After Round 3 is made, always work FPtr around first and last st of side, 2 rounds belo. Ch-1 spaces worked in even-numbered rounds will show placement of FPtr’s in next round

Starting at center, with B, ch 4; slip st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (right side): Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 13 dc in ring; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 14 dc.
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first st, ch 1, skip next dc, *3 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 7 groups of 3-dc. Change to A. Fasten off B.
Round 3: With A, ch 3, dc in first st, FPtr around the post of next corresponding dc, 2 rounds below, (always skip st behind FPtr just made), 2 dc in next dc (5 sts between ch-1 spaces), ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, *2 dc in next dc, FPtr around the post of next dc 2 rounds below, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 7 sides with 5 sts on each side between ch-1 spaces.
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 7 sts on eachside between ch-1 corner spaces. Change to C. Fasten off A.
Round 5: With C, ch 3, dc in first st, *FPtr around first dc in group 2 rounds below, dc in each of next 3 dc, FPtr around last dc of group 2 rounds below, 2 dc in next dc (9 sts on side), ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Round 6: Ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 3 sts, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3. Change to A. Fasten off C.
Round 7: With A, ch 3, dc in joining, *FPtr around first dc in group 2 rounds below, dc in each of next 3 dc, FPtr around next dc 2 rounds below, skip ch-1 space behind FPtr just made, dc in each of next 3 dc, FPtr around last dc in group 2 rounds below, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Round 8: Ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 3 sts, [ch 1, dc in each of next 3 dc] twice, 2 dc in last dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3. Change to D. Fasten off A.
Round 9: With D, ch 3, dc in first st, *FPtr around first dc in group 2 rounds below, dc in each of next 3 dc, [FPtr around next dc 2 rounds below, dc in each of next 3 dc] across side, FPtr around last dc in group 2 rounds below, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3.
Round 10: Ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each of next 3 sts, [ch 1, skip next st, dc in each of next 3 dc] across side, 2 dc in last dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3 – 19 sts on each side between ch-1 corner spaces. Change to A. Fasten off D.
Rounds 11-50: Repeat Rows 9-10 (20 times), working in the following color sequence: *2 rounds each of A, B, A, C, A, D; repeat from * throughout, ending with 2 rounds of B.
Note: 2 sts will be added to each side on each round. There should be 99 sts on each side between corner ch-1 spaces, at end of last round. Change to A. Fasten off B.
Round 51: With B, ch 3, dc in first st, *dc in each st across side, ending with 2 dc in last dc on side, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space**, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3, turn.
Round 3: With wrong side facing, ch 1, 2 sc in first st, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, 2 sc in next dc, sc in each dc across to last dc of side**, 2 sc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending last repeat at **; join with a slip st in top of beginning ch-3. Fasten off A.
