Schuyler Tunisian Crochet Ear Warmer

The Schuyler Tunisian Crochet Ear Warmer is a great way to stay on trend and keep your ears warm when it is cold outside. The Tunisian stitches are nice and thick keeping you well insulated. This is a quick one-skein crochet project that can easily be completed in a few hours.

If you are an experienced crocheter but haven’t tried Tunisian crochet, then this is a great smaller starter project. Pick your favorite worsted yarn in your favorite color. You can also add some fun embroidery flowers to this crochet ear warmer to make it even more special.

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Crochet Gauge20 rows x 20 stitches = 4 inches using tks

  • Caron Simply Soft 100% acrylic, worsted weight 170 grams/ 6oz., 288 m/ 315 yds (60 grams/ 100 yds are needed for the project)

Notes:

  • Click on any image to enlarge.
  • First loop on the hook always counts as the first TKS.

Special Stitches:
  • TPS (Tunisian Purl stitch): (forward pass) Place yarn in front of your work, insert your hook into the left vertical bar of the st below, yo and pull your yarn through. (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.
     
  • TKS (Tunisian Knit stitch): (Forward pass)working with the yarn behind your work, insert your hook between the vertical bars below the horizontal bars in the st below, yo, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook. (Return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.
     
  • TK2tog (Tunisian knit 2 together): (forward pass): working with the yarn behind your work insert your hook through the left vertical loops of the next 2 stitches, yo, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook. (return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.
     
  • TK3tog (Tunisian knit 2 together): (forward pass): working with the yarn behind your work insert your hook through the left vertical loops of the next 3 stitches, yo, pull the yarn through, keep your loop on the hook. (return pass): follow instructions in the pattern.
     
  • Yo (yarn over) : (Forward pass) put the yarn over the hook from back to front, (Return pass): treat this as a loop on the return pass.
     

Tunisian Crochet Ear Warmer Pattern:

  1. Foundation Row: (forward pass) Ch 21, insert hook into each ch and pull up a loop for a total of 21 loops on the hook, (return pass:) yo, pull through 1 loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) repeat (to) until you have 1 loop left.

  2. Row 1: (Forward pass) Tks8, tks2tog, yo, tksk, yo, tks2tog, tks8 (return pass:) yo, pull through 1 loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) repeat (to) until you have 1 loop left.

  3. Row 2: (Forward pass) Tks, tps4, tks3,tks2tog, yo, tks, yo, tks2tog, tks3, tps4, tks (return pass:) yo, pull through 1 loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) repeat (to) until you have 1 loop left.

  4. Row 3: (Forward pass) Tks8, tks2tog, yo, tks, yo, tks2tog, tks8 (return pass:) yo, pull through 1 loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) repeat (to) until you have 1 loop left.

  5. Row 4: (Forward pass) Tks, tps4, tks2, tks2tog, yo, tks3, yo,t ks2tog, tks2, tps4, tks (return pass:) yo, pull through 1 loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) repeat (to) until you have 1 loop left.

  14. Repeat Rows 1-12 for 6 repeats or until you reach your desired circumference.

  15. Finish off with a long tail. Using the long tail, whip stitch the first row and the last row together to form the loop of the ear warmer.

    Weave in your ends.

  16. Add little embroidery flowers to each circle if you choose.
