Winter Snowflake Garland

Have the best homemade decorations this winter by working up this Winter Snowflake Garland. Make each flake red or green if you want to go for a more Christmas feel, or leave them blue and white if you want to leave it up all winter long. Either way, your home will look perfectly decorated this winter with this crochet snowflake garland that can be hung anywhere. Even wrap it around your trees outside if you're feeling adventurous!

Crochet HookG/6 or 4 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS:

  • Red Heart Super Saver, 1 skein each:
    • A: 505 Aruba Sea
    • B: 316 Soft White
    • C: 319 Cherry Red
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook (G/6 or 4 mm)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Spray Starch (Optional)
  • 1" (2.5 cm) Ribbon

SIZE:
Finished Measurements Snowflake Motif = 4" (10 cm) in diameter

Snowflake Motif = 4" (10 cm) in diameter
 

GARLAND
Snowflake Motif
With desired color, make an adjustable ring. 
Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring; join with a slip st in first sc—6 sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around; join with a slip st in first sc—12 sc.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, ch 2, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, ch 2; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc—6 ch-2 spaces.
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, skip next st, sc in next st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space, *skip next st, sc in Round of next 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc—6 ch-2 spaces.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in Round of next 2 sts, (slip st, ch 7, slip st) in next ch-2 space, skip next sc, *sc in Round of next 3 sts, (slip st, ch 7, slip st) in next ch-2 space, skip next st, sc in Round of next 3 sts; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc—6 ch-7 loops.
Round 6: Ch 1, slip st in first st, sl st in Round of next 2 sts, ([3 sc, ch 3] 3 times, 3 sc) in next ch-7 space, *slip st in Round of next 3 sc, ([3 sc, ch 3] 3 times, 3 sc) in next ch-7 space; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in first sc—18 ch-3 spaces. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Repeat using colors A, B and C for desired number of Snowflake Motifs.

Snowflake Motif Blocking
Dampen motif with mister, straighten spokes and allow to dry.
For extra flattening, cover damp motif with waxed paper and place heavy book on top until motif is dry.
Optional: Spray with laundry starch to stiffen as desired.

FINISHING
*String ribbon from back to front through hole in one ray of any Snowflake. Restring ribbon from front to back through same hole, securing Snowflake in place; repeat from * spacing Snowflakes as desired.
