  • Size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

Instructions

STITCHES USED

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • Cl (cluster): Work dc until 2 loops remain, work 2nd dc in same st until 3 loops remain, yo, pull thru all loops
  • Double Crochet Cluster (any number of sts, plus 2 for turning ch):
    • Set up row: Cl in 4th ch from hook, cl in each ch across to last ch, dc in last ch, turn.
    • Row 1: Ch 3, cl in space before first cl, *cl between cl in previous row; repeat from * across, dc in turning ch, turn.
    • Rep Row 1 for Double Crochet Cluster.

NOTES:

Vest is worked in one piece from lower edge of front, up and over shoulder to back lower edge.

LEFT FRONT

Ch 22 (24, 26, 30, 34, 38). Work in Double Crochet Cluster until left front measures 12 (12.5, 13, 13.5, 14, 14.5)”/30.5 (32, 33, 34.5, 35.5, 37)cm.

  1. Shape neck & sleeve
    Next row (RS): Ch 11 at beg of next row for left sleeve, work across front in pattern, working 1 less cl at end of row, turn.

  2. Work 1 row even in pattern.

  3. Repeat these 2 rows once more—36 (38, 40, 44, 48, 52) sts.

  4. Continue to dec at neck edge every other row 3 (3, 4, 4, 7, 9) more times, then every row 6 (6, 5, 5, 2, 0) times—27 (29, 31, 35, 39, 43) sts. Work even until neck measures 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 11)”/20.5 (20.5, 23, 23, 25.5, 28)cm. Cut yarn and set aside.

RIGHT FRONT

  1. Shape neck & sleeve
    Next row (WS): Ch 11 at beg of next row for right sleeve, work across front in pattern, working 1 less cl at end of row, turn.

  3. Repeat these 2 rows once more—36 (38, 40, 44, 48, 52) sts.

  4. Continue to dec at neck edge every other row 3 (3, 4, 4, 7, 9) more times, then every row 6 (6, 5, 5, 2, 0) times—27 (29, 31, 35, 39, 43) sts. Work even until neck measures 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 11)”/20 (20, 23, 23, 25.5, 28)cm, end after a WS row with yarn at sleeve edge. Note: Make note of number of rows worked for sleeve after shaping.

BACK

Work across right front, ch 18 for back neck, continue across left front—72 (76, 80, 86, 96, 104) sts. Work even until back sleeves match front sleeves.

  1. Shape sleeves
    Next 4 rows:
     Work to last 7 sts, turn.

  2. Work even on 40 (44, 48, 56, 64, 72) sts until back measures same as front to foundation row. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew side and underarm seams. Weave in ends.
Fold up sleeve cuff.
