Dorm Organizer Square Baskets

Crochet HookH/8 or 5 mm hook

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

MATERIALS

  • Lily Sugar 'n Cream Main Color (MC) Jute (00082) 2 balls or 120 m/132 yds, Medium Version Ecru (00004) 2 balls or 165 m/180 yds, Large Version White (00001) 2 balls or 205 m/225 yds
  • Size U.S. H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE
12 sc and 13 rows = 4" [10 cm] with 2 strands of yarn worked tog.

SIZE
Small: Approx 3½" [9 cm] square x 4” [10 cm] tall.
Medium: Approx 5" [12.5 cm] square x 4” [10 cm] tall.
Large: Approx 6" [15 cm] square x 4” [10 cm] tall.

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes, the instructions will be written thus ( ). Instructions for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern.

Note: Baskets are worked with 2 strands of yarn tog.

SIDES

Ch 13.

1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 12 sc.

**2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Rep last row until work from beg measures 3 1/2 (5-6)" [9 (12.5-15) cm], ending on a WS row.***

Next row: (RS). (Fold line). Ch 1.  Working into back loop only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.** Rep from ** to ** twice more, then from ** to *** once.

Next row: (RS). (Joining row). Place foundation ch behind last row with WS of work tog. Ch 1.  Working through both thicknesses, 1 sc in each sc to end of row.

Fasten off.


BASE

Ch 11 (16-19).

1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 10 (15-18) sc.

2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.

Rep last row until work from beg measures 3 1/2 (5-6)” [9 (12.5-15) cm], ending on a WS row. Do not fasten off.

Join Base to Sides: Place lower edge of Sides behind Base with WS of work tog, aligning corners of Base with fold lines and joining row of Sides. Ch 1.  Working through both thicknesses, work 1 rnd of sc around all sides of Base. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
