How to Crochet a Tote Instructions

  1. Base: 
    Using Color A, ch 9.

  2. Row 1: Sc in the second chain from the hook and in each across (8 sts).

  3. Rows 2-28: Ch 1, turn; sc in each st across. 

  4. Body: 
    Round 1:
    Ch 1, using the ends of rows as stitches, sc in each st around the base, sl st to the first st to join (72 sts).

  5. Rounds 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off Color A.

  6. Round 6: Join Color B in the first st, ch 4 (counts as the first dc + ch 1), ch 1, sk 1 st, * dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1 st, repeat from * around, sl st to the 3rd chain of the first ch 4 to join. Fasten off.

  7. Round 7: Join Color C in any ch 1 space, ch 1, * sc in ch space, ch 1, sk 1, repeat from * around, sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off.

  8. Round 8: Join Color A in any ch 1 space, ch 1, * sc in ch space, ch 1, sk 1, repeat from * around, sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off.

  9. Round 9: Join Color B in any ch 1 space, ch 4 (counts as the first dc + ch 1), ch 1, sk 1 st, * dc in next st, ch 1, sk 1 st, repeat from * around, sl st to the 3rd chain of the first ch 4 to join. Fasten off.

  10. Rounds 10-20: Repeat Rounds 7-9, ending on Round 8.

  11. Round 21: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch around, sl st to the first st to join.

  12. Round 22: Ch 1, * sc 7, sc dec, repeat from * around, sl st to the first st to join (64 sts).

  13. Round 23: Ch 1, sc in each st, sl st to the first st to join. Fasten off.

  14. Straps: make 4
    Using Color A, ch 54.

  15. Rnd 1: Dc in the fourth chain from hook and in each across. Fasten off.

  16. Use yarn needle and sew straps on to the bag.

Love this easy pattern but why do the instructions say make 4 straps?

Love this tote! My only question is why the pattern states to make 4 straps when it looks as though you only use 2.
