The word papillon is French for butterfly and lends itself perfectly to the name of this decorative scarf. This beautiful crochet pattern is comprised of butterfly stitches. A Papillon Scarf would look great in a cotton or silk yarn.

very easy to make

I love the pattern i will make more for my sisters love it.

I really like the look of this scarf and the pattern seemed easy for a beginner but I couldn't get it looking the same as the picture. Maybe it is my lack of experience(only done a few items so far) but I am sure I don't seem to stitch in the right stitch with this pattern. I plan on trying this pattern again to perfect the look:)

mom123 no i do not think it is the lack of experience just relax and have fun doing i some time i crochet to tight and the item comes out like i did it with my feet

I recommend looking at the chart. It helped me to understand the pattern. I was a true beginner when I made this scarf the first time and I had some trouble with the written pattern. I've made several of these since. Everyone loves them. You can do it!

I've made 3 of these with Caron Simply Soft Prints with a H hook. I found it fun to work on. Granddaughters & friend loved it.

I've made this one - it's OK but time spent on it would have better served a different gift. Person made for thought it was so so, and while it is OK, with all of the patterns out there, I wouldn't make again. Just an opinion - I do a lot of crocheting, maybe for someone looking to expand or practice, even then - the photo is exactly what it will look like - not prettier when actually working on it as other patterns are.

I love this pattern! Thanks so much for sharing it. I've made two of these...one in a worsted weight (Caron Simply Soft) and one in a lightweight yarn (Serenity Garden). Both are beautiful. I am going to make some more for my duaghters-in-law and daughter for birthdays.

i love this pretty scarf! I think I will try iy, after I get the project that I'm working on finished...

I've been asked to make scarves for women at homeless shelters; there's a group in Pittsburgh called Comfort Scarves that gives them to women there. This pattern could fit the bill well for a lighter scarf to suit spring and summer use. Thanks!

I'm making another! The first came out so nicely and was very easy. I used an H and 'I Love This Cotton Yarn' by Hobby Lobby. It made a nice summer scarf, a great accent piece. The next is to go with a summer beanie, a gift for Mother's Day. This pattern works up very quickly. Thank you.

Lovely with glamour yarn too. Pretty!!!

This is lovely! Can't wait to get busy with it. I think I'll use Caron Soft. It is silky and drapes real nice. Thank you so much!

Loved making this pretty scarf.
