Not Your Average Slouchy Beanie

Not Your Average Slouchy Beanie

Unlike many crocheted hats, the Not Your Average Slouchy Beanie is designed to be worn two different ways - you can either wear it over your hair, or you can stick your hair inside the slouchy hat for a unique look. Red Heart Super Saver yarn is used to work up this free crochet pattern in any two colors you choose. The crochet pattern is designed to be a bit snug, because the hat will stretch a lot. It measures only 8 inches across, but the brim will stretch all the way around an adult's head.

This almost looks like its half slouchie and half snood. The pattern is a little difficult to read through, but the jist is that you work the central flower motif first and then start adding the surrounding Shell stitches. Whats confusing are the directions to secure certain stitches. At this point, the photos dont really help but maybe as I work through the project this might become clearer.

Not sure if I am crazy about this pattern. It may be a good hat for one of those "bad hair" days. I don't have long hair so I would not make it for myself but for a friend. It should not take long to make. I will have to give it a try.

There is a neighborhood in my city where lots of folks where hippie or Rasta style clothing. There's an untapped potential lurking there. What a great craft fair item to make. This is not a hat for warmth, but rather a hat for style. Not a hat for gals with super short hair, though. Oh! there are countless Red Heart Super Saver colors available, so there's lots of different looks that can be created to make an entire slouch hat wardrobe for yourself or that craft fair. This is a really pretty hat!

Uh oh, another post with a missing picture. After following the link and seeing a pic of this beanie, I agree that this is not your average slouchy beanie. The instructions for making the brim are a little confusing so read them over a few times very slowly. I am concerned about how big the gaps are in the beanie and that my hair might try to make an escape and go everywhere.

I'm not sure why the one star rating because I clicked the haven't yet made this box. I would not give this a 1 star if I had rated it would have been higher.

Hi Hippie Chick, Thanks for the heads up - the photo should be appearing now. :) Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

This beanie didn't take me as long as I thought it would! My only problem is that I made it for myself... and didn't take into consideration that I have dreads! LOL It fits me barely! But it was too cute of a pattern for me to pass up!
