Bring a burst of color into your home with this Watermelon Twist Afghan. This fruity pattern is the perfect reminder of summer picnics and parties. It can't be summer without juicy slices of watermelon laid out, and this crochet granny square afghan is just as scrumptious! You could even change the yarn to a lighter weight for a great blanket for warm weather. Double crochet stitches are used to work up this free crochet afghan pattern, so it's perfect for someone who's new to the world of crochet. It would look amazing spread out on a bed or couch.

Its a good thing that this project uses a fairly common Granny pattern because the YouTube video doesnt seem to exist anymore. All the squares start out the same with the pink and green centers. Only the black and white edges differ, so that also makes this a very portable project, too. The only bit of confusion is in the Assembly section. A photo or other link to the SC Method would be useful.

I can't get into the video of the Watermelon twist. I can't get started as the circle doesn't "close" with the first row. So am thinking maybe a "H" is too big! Please help asap

Hi pamwoolf, Oh no! I'm sorry you're having trouble. I would suggest you leave a comment on the pattern page itself so that you can get help straight from the designer. Good luck! Julia, editor for AllFreeCrochet

This Watermelon Twist afghan is such a lovely update on the old favorite granny square afghan. A beautiful illustration on just what one can do with various different colors. I think I am going to make us one to use as a picnic blanket, just like they did in years gone by. My man suggests that each of our 4 children chooses a color which I think is a lovely idea.

This is so pretty and looks so professional. The colors are very unexpected in that when I think of a granny square afghan I don't usually think of something that looks like this. It is refreshing! Making this in a cotton or cotton blend yarn will enable you to take it to the beach or lakefront or use it in the air conditioning- that way it won't be too hot!

This watermelon twist afghan makes me think of the days of having picnics on warm summer afternoons. The colors are so mellow and relaxing. Spread this out on the ground and have lunch then later lay there and look up at the clouds and birds and then drift off to a little nap.

Wow. This is so beautiful. I may not fully agree with the colors to match the name Watermelon Twist because watermelon is red but there's the word "twist" so that's okay. If I decide to make this afghan, I'd probably sub the pink colors with red to make it a real watermelon afghan. Here's the link to the pattern http// == 2/.

Came out great, but the pattern was difficult. Much of the work was done from the photo not the written instructions. BTW - the work shown is 42 squares, not 40 as listed in the pattern.

This looks easy enough. Thank you very pretty. Going to give it a try. May use some type of baby yarn or light weight, so it can be use out doors on a summer night.

I made this for my Granddaughter. She loves it. I also made smaller squares in the same colors, to make her initial. I purchased some black on white dotted material for the background which I glued to poster board, and then glued the initial onto the dotted material, and I bordered it with white on black dotted ribbon, and then I framed it. It really popped !! Both the afghan and the picture turned out so pretty !! Thank you so very much for the pattern.

@shoequeen113, Hi, me too! I've been trying since last night, and I'm coming up with a blank screen too :(
