Settle in on your couch with the Country Cottage Granny Afghan. With inviting nature hues, this granny square afghan is the perfect thing to snuggle under as you drink some cocoa after a long nature hike. Free crochet afghan patterns, just like this one, can create family heirlooms that make a home feel cozy. This pattern would look great whether you use a self-striping yarn, as shown, or a solid color. For a fun, patchwork effect, try creating a bunch of different solid-colored crochet granny squares.

I am not usually into Granny Afghans but this one speaks to me. I love the color and the fact that it doesn't take long to make each square. It will be a perfect summer project. I have some grandchildren who will be graduating from high school and they all get an afghan. Will probably make theirs in not so mutted colors though.

I so love the laid back look of this Country Cottage Granny Afghan. The colors used are very unassuming but has its own personality. I'm sure a lot of people like this color combination displayed on their living sofa or a lapghan - an afghan on the lap. Perfect as a present or for persona use. Thanks for this free pattern.

Please, will someone tell me what Aran means?

aran is a color of yarn as far as I know. I use Red Heart yarn in Aran to make my afghans. I hope this helps.

aran is a yarn weight which is equlivalent to worsted weight 4 can find a chart here

At the bottom of the pattern, he says "The picture above of the Cottage Relaxation is a traditional granny square. You can spice up your work if you make the centers rounded as the instructions and video shows."

Thanks for the heads up...but I do like it, so I hope they fix it so I can add it to my collection

Well that is good to know! Glad I didn't start this yet!

The picture of the pattern and the pattern are not the same...
