Sunshine on a Cloudy Day DIY Weighted Blanket

One of the latest trends in the crochet world is the DIY weighted blanket. These blankets are created to be heavy, ranging in added weight from four pounds up to 30 pounds, and help people suffering from things like insomnia, anxiety, and autism. The problem is that a weighted blanket can be pretty expensive. If you have wondered how to make a weighted blanket to get all the health benefits at a fraction of the cost, you'll love this Sunshine on a Cloudy Day DIY Weighted Blanket.

This crochet weighted blanket weighs over six pounds and can be considered a weighted blanket for someone up to 60 pounds, but you can also make two identical blankets and sew them together for double the weight. It's a C2C crochet pattern, designed to use just one ball of each color and using complete rows without mid-row color changes.

If you want to learn more about weighted blankets, read about Crochet Weighted Blanket Benefits. Plus, check out the video below for more information on C2C crochet!

This is the first that I have heard of a weighted blanket. When surfing the All Free Crochet web site, I always learn something new. I understand the concept of this blanket and I applaud the designer for making it. With our without the need for a weighted blanket, this would be a beautiful afghan to give anyone.

Ive never done a Corner to Corner crochet blanket. The video attached to this patter is so easy to follow, Im sure once I get started I wouldnt be able to do anything else. It looks easy to do and looks like fun. This Sunshine on a Cloudy Day pattern has such bright colors, the name fits it well.

My little nephew is autistic. This would be perfect for him. Not only will he appreciate the weight but he will love the designs on it. This is not hard to make. It is just time consuming. And I have the time it takes. Thank you for sharing this very therapeutic project.

This sunshine on a cloudy day blanket is really very pretty. If you have an individual that would benefit from this it would be a great item to make and gift if necessary. Just the beautiful colors alone would add some happiness in my life. What a beautiful gesture.

Ive never heard of a weighted blanket but I do understand the concept behind it. We had a young dog that was horribly afraid of lightning. She was so distressed even indoors that we bought one of those Thunder Shirts for her. Pricey, didnt work for her, and so back to the pet store the next day. This blanket might have worked better.

If this blanket pattern was invented about 8-10 years ago, I would be rushing out to the craft store to buy my yarn right this second. I happen to have a 15 year old son with autism. I can attest to how WELL a weighted ANYTHING works for kiddos like him. This design rocks! Thank you so very much for thinking of these kinds of kids.

I'm so glad to hear about how well this works with your son. My cousin's daughter is severely autistic and only music seems to calm her. I'll tell them about this!
