Afghans with Style by Melissa Leapman is a fantastic booklet filled with some of the most amazing afghans I have seen in my 40 years of crocheting.  Texture, color and style flow from the pages of this crochet pattern booklet!!  Afghans have been one of my favorite projects to make over the years and I can’t wait to make all of the patterns that are featured in this booklet.  I may have to hide them when I finish them; my family will want to steal them for their own!!

If you are a fan of Old World style and Aran textures, this is a perfect book for you to grab and get started on one of the 6 beautiful patterns.   Many of the patterns featured look like they have complicated color work, but by only using 1 – 2 colors per row the afghans will work up much easier than you would think!!  The Interlock Mosaic Afghan on page 2 and the Hearthstone Afghan on page 20 are both beautiful 2-color projects that have a special technique that make the designs pop!!!  The Shannonbrae Afghan on page 6 and the Gallinmore Afghan on page 10 provide amazing textural projects.  My favorite project in this 32-page booklet is the Nordic Snowflake Afghan on page 14. This is a Fairisle style project and they have a wonderful graph along with great written instructions.  The Scandinavian Afghan on page 16 would be perfect in my guestroom to warm up anyone in the cold winter months!!

This is a top rated crochet booklet and as an added bonus Leisure Arts has included video tutorials to help with the pattern techniques.  All the patterns are well written and easy to understand. The patterns are all intermediate, but if you want to expand your skills the instructions and videos will help you make one of these lovely afghans.  I can’t wait to get started on one of my own!!
