Granny Square Scrubby

"I made the scrubby out of a light DK weight cotton in 7 different shades. If you’re going to use yours as a dish cloth or hot pad, you can definitely use an acrylic yarn. I’m going to use this as a shower scrubby so I opted for a soft cotton. The finished scrubby is about 6×6 inches. I joined rows with an invisible join instead of a slip stitch. There is a photo tutorial for making the edging and loop of the scrubby just in case you get stuck!"

This roundish granny square pattern works by increasing your stitches per round by 12 per. It is a basic formula that we all should know. So helpful when making your OWN patterns off the cuff, as I used to do all the time. Now this granny square scrubby is so vintage in style, I love the look of it. I would almost like to use these as wall art in my kitchen, hanging on my backsplash. Make them in colors that coordinate with your kitchen or bath.

There are so many uses for a project like this one. It is a scrubby mitt, a hot pad, a pouch or bag, or as Hippy Chick mentioned, a coaster if altered slightly. Add a zipper or add a flap and it is a small purse. Granny squares are quick to make. This is a great pattern, not only for everything you can do with it, but also because it is quick and simple. Change yarn weights and hooks and you can make a variety of sizes without altering the pattern.

Two cotton granny squares sewn together on three sides to form a pocket for your hand to be used as an exfoliator in the shower. This is actually a project inside of a project because you could work this project and stop before the circle becomes a square and use the circle for a glass cozy or coaster.

This is adorable! I love the colors and how it has kind of a vintage look to it.
