DIY Doll Hair

Yarn Wig Instructions

  1. Take your yarn and place it at the end of your piece of cardboard.

Note: Make sure to adjust the size of your piece of cardboard to coincide with how long you want your doll hair to be.

  2. Begin to wrap the yarn all the way around your cardboard. The more times you wrap your yarn the thicker the hair will be, and the fewer times the thinner it will be.

Pro Tip: It makes it easier for you to end wrapping your yarn at the same end you started it on.

  3. Trim off the end of your yarn. Slide off all of the pieces of yarn off of your cardboard.

  4. Wrap a piece of scrap yarn around the center of your yarn, and tie a really tight knot.

  5. Use your scissors to cut the loops your just made in half.

  6. Flip your hair cluster on the head of your ornament or doll, and part your hair the way you would like it. Then, sew the hair in place.

For some reason the video doesn't work on my end. But after reading the written directions for the DIY Doll Hair is just how I learned to do it years ago. It is so easy and if you sew it tightly, the hair will stay in place. I use the same color to sew it one to make sure you can't see it. Thank you for sharing this free DIY how to.

This tutorial would be more helpful if you made a doll to show how to sew it on

One of my first hobbies as an adult was making dolls and other soft toys. This method of making doll hair will work, but unless you get the initial knot tight enough, the short pieces of yarn will still eventually work themselves free. A much BETTER way is to take a scrap of fabric and actually stitch the knotted yarn to that. You can hand sew or use a sewing machine. This stablizes the yarn and it wont get loose.
