Notes:

  • Pattern is worked with two strands of yarn held together until the woven portion of the cuff, then worked with a single strand.
  • Rounds of the sole and vamp are worked in a spiral without joining, unless otherwise directed.
  • The Celtic Weave cuff overlay is worked separately, then joined to the slipper on the last round by working through both layers.
  • Rounds of the cuff overlay are joined, the beginning chain does not count as a stitch, the round is started and joined in the first stitch, not the beginning chain.

Special Stitches:

  1. Invisible Join: Weave the yarn tail under both loops of the second stitch to the left, then back through the center of the last stitch made. Pull the tail just tight enough so that it looks like the other stitches.

  2. Slip Stitching the Soles Together: Make 4 soles, two of each color. Place one of each color of sole together with wrong sides facing and Color B on top, making sure to line up the stitches. With two strands of Color A, loosely slip stitch through both layers of stitches from the last round.

  3. Invisible Join for SLIP STITCH: Weave the yarn tail under both loops of the starting slip stitch, and then back through the center of the last slip stitch made. Pull the tail just tight enough so that it looks like the other stitches. This counts as the last stitch of the round.

  4. Locating the first stitch of Round 1 on the Vamp: Locate the center of the heel by laying a hook or needle along the foundation chain of the sole. It should point between two stitches. Starting in the one to the left of the pointer and working under both loops, join Color A. If it seems to be pointing in the middle of a stitch, choose the first stitch to the left.

  5. Woven Cuff: The Celtic weave sleeve is worked separate from the boot and then attached by working single crochet through both layers of the sleeve and cuff.

Abbreviations

DC Cluster (dc-cl)
Yarn over and insert hook in the next stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through first 2 loops on hook, yarn over and insert hook in the same stitch, draw up a loop, pull through first 2 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.
Decreasing with HDC
The way I make a HDC decrease is slightly different than normal; I only yarn over for the first stitch and work the next stitch like a SC decrease - this creates a less bulky decrease stitch. HDC2TOG: Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch (3 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

can not get the gauge of 12 stitchw and 14 rows =4 inches, have used a smaller hook and a larger hook, 2 strands of yarn (Medium worsted 4 ply) held together, can you give me a tip how to proceed, want to make these for a gift

These are just amazing! Coming from a Scots background, anything with this weave immediately grabs my attention. Working the Celtic Stitch cuff separately and then sewing it on makes working this up so much easier. I also greatly appreciate the photos that come with this project. There are enough so I can definitely get the idea for the construction. Thanks so much for posting this project!

Wow this pattern is so cool looking! I think this one will be so warm with the two colors together. I like that the pattern is right here on this page and it is well written and easy to follow. I just hope mine will look as good as the ones in the picture. Has anyone made these if so, how did they come out? Thank you so much for sharing this free crochet pattern.

I love this pattern very easy to follow and make! They are very warm amd cozy too!

These look so warm and cozy! They would make great slippers to lounge around in on lazy winter Sundays.
