Cant you just leave the flowers out, by carrying on with the hat, without changing colors?

The top of this hat is pretty easy but when getting to the brim, very confusing. Instructions are not clear, never know how many stitches you are suppose to have. Can anyone explain this pattern a little more clearer so I can finish my hat. Thanks for the help I agree that a plain hat instructions should also be added.

I was thinking the same thing! I'm going to use the same pattern but not change colors. I have done that with other patterns and it has worked just fine.
