As a recipient of a Prayer Shawl I felt truly blessed that someone thought enough of me to give me one. As the years go by and I continue to recover from multiple strokes, and I see that prayer shawl, it gives me the peace and joy I felt the day I received it. So yes, there is a power that is extended to the recipient whether you call it a 'healing", a blessing, or any other name you choose. The giving of a gift to someone that could use a little cheer is very powerful. Even on my worst days, I remember the day I got it and how unexpected it was and how it made me feel. To all that do make them, Thank you and please continue regardless of snide remarks others may make.

Where in the Houston, TX area can I buy loop yarn for the prayer shawl?

its not the shawel, but its the prayer and comfort , when soneone give one to you. it the love that come with when someone takes the time to make one. healing comes from god and not a shawel.

I believe that Member 2586625 has lost the concept of the prayer shawl.... Here are some examples of prayers that can be stated while making the shawl: St. Patrick Church - Starting Prayer - 2013 All rights reserved by Darcy Horon -Siepman Dear Lord, Bless these needles that they stay strong and light so they don't tire the hands that wield them; Bless this yarn with strength and softness that it will form a cloth of warmth and comfort; Bless these hands with strength and skill so they may make well crafted gifts; Bless this heart with strength and perseverance so I will see this work through to bring comfort to those in need; But most of all dear Lord, Bless the wearer of this cloth with strength and comfort that their burdens may be lightened and their hearts gladdened with the realization that they are loved. Psalm 90:17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and confirm for us the work of our hands; yes, confirm the work of our hands. And yet another one: Prayer Of Blessing (blessing for a completed shawl) 2013 All rights reserved. By: Janet Severi Bristow - 2000 www.shawlministry.com May God's grace be upon this shawl... warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing. May this mantle be a safe haven... a sacred place of security and well-being... sustaining and embracing in good times as well as difficult ones. May the one who receives this shawl be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love. Blessed Be! It's the prayer while making the shawl that makes these shawls so important....And to add a small prayer tagged on the shawl for added support. In Jesus name we ask that these words of the Lord follow thru the hands that make and donate these precious gifts to those that in need. AMEN

If it lifts someones spirits, and gives them warmth, that is healing in itself.

I am saddened for you to say this shawl has Healing Power! How could it? Someone goes to store, buys the yarn, and crochets it, and "IT" has healing power??? Shame on you! I was offended by your whole Church Approved theme, but this certainly is the worst. No matter what denomination you are, that is awful. If someone is comforted by a "Prayer Shawl", I would not condem it, but a HEALING??? NO WAY

Healing starts with the mind, if it gives someone else comfort to know that this piece was prayed up on while making it why discount on thier beliefs if they are not your own??? There go "IT" does have healing powers if only for a split second in that persons life they have a moment of peace of mind, that is HEALING...
