I love making textured lapghans for the seniors. I have found that while sitting with these textured lapghans the seniors will slide their hands back and forth over it and they find a soft texture to be soothing. It's almost like petting a dog or cat. This simple action can be beneficial to them. This pattern has a few textures and I like that the simple rows of single crochet done in the back loops can be worked in ombre colored yarn as well as solid so I can use up odd skeins let from other projects too. Thank you for sharing this pattern.

I feel this would be a great gift for my daughters. One for each.

I have made quite a few lapghans for a local church group which gives them to seniors in the area. One thing I have noticed when I see the seniors with them is the they seem to enjoy the ones with texture like this. They are constantly rubbing their hands softly over it and this seems to be a soothing reaction which can benefit their health. I spoke to the therapists about it and they feel the same as I do. This lapghan is also lovely to look at and it can help a person realize someone cares.

This information is so helpful. I've been looking around at the patterns, trying to decide what pattern to use first. I love making afghans, and have decided to start making lapghans for the senior center, here in my small town. Your tips are so helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to share. Thank you!
