Now this is what I call a unique use of crochet. I love the basket weave and with the type of yarn used here making a "painting" to hang in any room of the house will certainly be a conversation starter to say the least.

Now that I have seen this as a design idea, I would love to explore other crochet techniques and possibly make a yarn painting in a different stitch. This is a novel gift idea and for those that have enough afghans to last a life time, this is a great alternative gift.

Its so nice to see crochet used for something other than an afghan or wearable item. This Basketweave project would certainly make a bold statement on your wall! Unfortunately, there is only a video describing the stitch and how to size it to your existing picture frame. I couldnt find a link to a written pattern anywhere. Im not sure Ill be making this, but it would be a great project for someone interested in fiber arts as art rather than a garment.

This is the kind of project I can identify with. I am not afraid of freeform crochet as I used to make all my crochet projects from ideas in my head, and if it turned out really good I would retrace my steps and write the pattern down so I could make it again. I am very artistic and creative and I can totally appreciate this. When you click on the link to the pattern page you will be directed to click on a YouTube video.

I love, love, love this yarn painting project! There is a video you are directed to go to that explains how to make this yarn painting. It is made with the basket weave stitch, but that stitch is not demonstrated in this video. You will be working with three yarns at the same time. It will be heavy, so get a good quality frame to put it in.

I have thought about making themed framed pictures by using appliques, but this never occurred to me. It seems like a wonderful way to thin out ones scrap yarn collection. Every crocheter or knitter has a stash of scrap yarn that is to small for most projects, but still enough that you don't want to throw it away. I have a list a mile long of planned projects, but I think I will add this one to it. I might get to it in the next decade. Lol.

This is absolutely beautiful!! I wish I was good enough to do something like this!! The colors would be the hard part for me.

this is fabulous, i did one with left over cotton yarn using the basketweave and the frame I had has a glass in front so it really came out FABULOUS, thanks Michael for another out of the standard (crochet) box idea!!! Please keep them coming, Hi to Diva Dan
