Silly Striped Baby Mittens

Keeping baby warm is definitely a priority this winter. Work up these Silly Striped Baby Mittens to do just that! With a fun stripe of color amidst a blank canvas, you can make this mittens pattern anything you want it to be. There is also a cord to attach so that you don't lose either crochet mitten. Notes

1. Mittens are worked from striped cuff upwards. 2. Mittens are worked back and forth in rows then seamed. 3. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Do not fasten off old color. Carry colors not in use across wrong side of piece until next needed.

Mitten (Make 2)

With A, ch 21. Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn20 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn; change to B in last sc. Rows 3 and 4: With B, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn; change to C in last sc of Row 4. Rows 5 and 6: With C, ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn; change to A in last sc of Row 6. Row 7: With A, ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc, turn22 sc. Shape for Thumb Row 8: Ch 1, sc in first 10 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in last 10 sc, turn24 sc. Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 10 sc, turn26 sc. Row 10: Ch 1, sc in first 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last 10 sc, turn28 sc. Divide for Hand and Thumb Row 11: Ch 1, sc in first 10 sc, sk next 8 sc (for thumb), sc in next 10 sc, turn20 sc. Row 12: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Repeat last row until hand measures 4 1/2"/11.5cm, measured from last C-colored row. Top of Hand Next Row: Ch 1, *sc2tog, sc in next sc; repeat from * across to last 2 sc, sc2tog, turn13 sc. Next Row: Ch 1, *sc2tog; repeat from * across to last st, sc in last st, turn7 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for gathering top and sewing mitten seam. Thumb Row 1: With RS facing, join A with sc in first of the 8 skipped thumb sts, sc in next 7 skipped thumb sts, turn8 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Repeat last row until thumb measures 1 1/4"/3cm, measured from Row 1 of thumb. Next Row: Ch 1, [sc2tog] 4 times4 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for gathering top and sewing thumb seam. Cord (make 1) With A, ch 100. Fasten off.

Finishing

Using yarn needle, thread tail at top of thumb through stitches of last row and pull gently to gather. With tail, sew sides of thumb together. Using yarn needle, thread tail at top of hand through stitches of last row and pull gently to gather. With tail, sew sides of mitten together. Sew each end of cord to one mitten. Weave in ends.
