Love In the Language of Yarn

LILY Love in the Language of YarnLILY - Love In the Language of Yarn is a non profit organisation based in Kuadasi, Turkey. Founded to help children in need concentrating at the moment on Syrian refugees. As a result of the governmental unrest, hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been fleeing into Turkey, where they settle into refugee camps.

Refugee camps are just what they sound like - makeshift spots where Syrians fleeing violence can take refuge. These may be safer than the place from which they fled, but they are by no means comfortable or homey.

This is where Lily comes in. We sew together squares sent by generous knitters/ crocheters from all over the world to make blankets for refugee children. These will not only help keep children warm during cold and wet Turkish winters, but it will also let them know that they have not been forgotten - they are loved and cared for.
Got any yarn odds and ends that you don't know what to do with? Help us Knit/ crochet 8'' squares, or even just one square, and you can send that square to Lily, where it will join with other squares to become a blanket. That blanket will mean the world to a Syrian child refugee. If you are not a knitter you could always donate a ball of yarn and we will knit the squares for you. We meet every Tuesday 2 pm till 5 pm in Golden Oldies Kuadasi. If you are in the area come and join us!

Get more information about Lily, including guidelines, where to send squares, and how the program helps Syrian and Turkish children, on their Facebook page or on their website.

In addition to Syrian refugee camps, blankets and blanket squares knitted/crocheted for Lily are also donated to Turkish orphanages and NICUs in Turkish Hospitals.

Would love the mailing address to send a bunch of squares I made, while learning to crochet a couple years back. Grandson (4-yrs old) keeps getting into them, and I need them gone to a place they won't be wasted. Thanks!!

Found them on Facebook. Link you have, is broken. "We are always happy to receive your knitted, crochet, sewn, bought or good quality second hand clothing, toys and 8-inch squares which we then sew into blankets, we distribute them to Syrian children living in Turkey. There is now a customs tax on all parcels coming in from abroad which has to be paid by LILY upon receipt of parcel." The address to send them to is Dianne Jones Trkmen Mahlesi Src Sokak No.11/1 Kuadasi Aydin Turkey Please mark all parcels 'For charity no commercial value'Z That's the info I was looking for, so figured I'd pass it along here too... for others.
