ASPCA - The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

The ASPCA works to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with shelters nationwide. All the animals could use blankets, dog sweaters, toys and more. If you have a heart for these animals crochet for this charity today.

Make blankets out of washable acrylic yarn medium and bulky yarns work best. Yarns can be doubled. Blankets should be thick for comfort and warmth. Most patterns are fine. Dogs and cats are not picky! Solid patterns are better than open lace patterns, though. Sizes can range from 14"x14" for cats and small dogs to 36"x36" and any size in between, for medium to larger dogs. Contact local shelters and rescues and ask what they need. Type in "pet shelters and rescues" into a search engine to find those that are not in your area.

Do you have some patterns for dog coats?

Just a suggestion, but a call to your local humane society could answer some of these questions on a local basis. In my area there is a high need for washable kennel pads for the cats and dogs, washable blankets for the larger animals to snuggle, a couple multi-sized velcro rain jackets for walking various sized dogs in inclement weather, some well constructed cat and pup toys with no choking hazards, even some cute, stretchable cat collars to show off for adoptive parents. If it is washable and will pad the wire cages, it is useful, as they can go through a few every day for each animal.

Look up Snuggles Project, if memory serves, they have patterns, with material suggestions, sizes, etc. Along with info to donate.

This is a great idea--I love animals and I love to crochet--but where do I send this stuff? Let me know, please!
