A more complex style of crochet which causes the work to look 3D or stand out. You will typically see cables done on Sweaters or even afghans. It is a bit more complex as stitches will cross over each other which causes bulges and thickness to build up. It requires more care on counting stitches at the very beginning of your project to make sure your work is inline. When working on free crochet afghan patterns this is great to know how to do.

Pros & Cons

  • Complex and not for beginners.
  • Stunning results if done in the right color. Some colors don’t show off this technique that well. Experimenting may be required to see how it will look before attempting the project.
  • It will take longer and can be a bit frustrating as some stitches are hard to access due to the technique.
