Classic Crossbody Bag

search

Bags come in all various sizes and styles, but crossbody bags are our favorite. This Classic Crossbody Bag is easy to carry and big enough to fit your daily essentials, and then some. This style of bag eliminates possible shoulder pain that over-the-shoulder purses usually can cause. Use any color yarn you want to complete this free crochet pattern. Straps are attached from the inside of the bag. Once you've completed the pattern, you can add a variety of embellishments including a zipper, decorative button, fabric lining, or a snap closure.

This pattern was EXACTLY what I was looking for! I used black yarn and my block was 90 stitches instead of 45 and I didn't do the decrease. I added a big button so I could fold down one side of the bag and have an asymmetrical look. I also added a pocket on the liner. I had the idea in my head, but I needed your pattern as a basis, so thanks!!

Im not a handbag person, but if I had to pick a favorite, this crossbody style would be my choice. For one, it leaves your hands free to do other things, and its large enough to contain more than just the essentials. One change I would make to this pattern is to seam up the sides first before starting the additional rows that form the top.

This is a cute bag, and it is really simple to make. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The designer did not include hook or yarn information, but I think that might be so people are not restricted, thinking they must use a certain yarn type. Different yarn types, with appropriate hooks for the yarn you are using, will result in different sizes, making this a very versatile pattern.

Thanks for including the hook size and the yarn weight in this post as the designer left that out of her instructions when you go to her blog. She jumps right into the chaining and crocheting so I was wondering what was used. I think a cotton yarn would be the best yarn to use on a project like this one.
